Large Size Dark Red Lacquer Wooden Storage Trunk with Base from the early 20th century. Replaced brass fitting, with well constructed woodwork inside. The inside of the lid and the bottom shelf have some burnt marks, otherwise very clean. The lacquer work is original, made of organic mineral color pigments. This large trunk makes an affordable and nice storage while using it as an end table, coffee table, or simply by placing it in front of a bed. Dimensions: 29" L x 19" W x 17" H

Antique Narrow Style Red Lacquer Wedding Trunk with White Brass Plates. This antique red trunk has the original old red lacquer made from the organic mineral compound that is vividly beautiful and striking! It is well constructed in its woodwork both inside and outside with rounded edges on the top and is very clean inside. The white brass plates is made of more expensive metal ingredients than the usual yellow brass plates seen on most of the Chinese furniture pieces. The latch for the brass plates likely was replaced at some point. Early 20th century. This trunk with two old side metal handles for carrying makes a nice personal size to store all your valued personal items. Dimensions: 27" L x 4 1/4" W x 10" H

Antique Small Size Hand-Painted wooden Chest with A Young Boy and Bird. This interesting chest with a rare original motif of a young boy holding an auspicious magpie bird was specially created to store a child's belongings. It came from the Shanxi area in China. Such chests were popular to use for children believing that they brought good luck, safety, and prosperity. A commonly seen motif on these boxes would be a painted Fu-lion with majority of the boxes found being made in the earlier part of the 20th century and often repainted. This one is possibly from the 19th century. The back metal hinges have been replaced. This is truly a charming piece! Dimensions: 17 3/4" L x 13" W x 13 7/8" H

Repainted Antique Northern Chinese Carrying Style Wooden Chest with iron and old Chinese coin for fitting, repainted with a prosperous symbol of a young boy holding a peony flower branch as well as two lines of a couplet with calligraphy depicting the accumulation of wealth and treasures coming in from all directions and from all seasons. So, this might suggest that someone had used this box to store valuable items. This box made of northern elm wood might have come from the late 19-early 20th century period. Partial hardware missing. All the wood surfaces have recently been refinished to a silky smooth touch. Dimensions: 17 1/2" L x 11" D x 17 1/4" H

Rare Antique Small Trunk with Excellent Old Metal Fitting and Original Red Brown Lacquer Finish. This style of box usually comes in desktop size as part of the scholarly objects to use and is often called "Zhuang-Yuan-Xiang，狀元箱"， symbolizing that the box once was used by a successful scholar who served as a top-ranked civil court official, hence, the name for the style of the box came. In Chinese language, Xiang often refers to the box as well. This one serves more like a small trunk for its unusual larger size probably to carry more books. The unusual large size old brass plates at front also showcased the luxurious intent and presentation of the original maker for making such an impressive box/ trunk. Estimated to be around 150 years old or so. Skillful repair or replacement on some parts of the brass fitting on the box. Dimensions: 19 1/4" L x 11 3/4" W x 11" H

(清代描金樟木紅漆箱) This 19th century antique gilt painted wooden storage trunk, possibly from Fujian area, is made of camphor wood (樟木). Part of the gilt color is painted on polished built layers of black color lacquer that is almost similar to Duei-Qi (堆漆, Piled-Lacquer) , though not terribly thick, over the thinly applied dark-brownish red color (over the brighter red) that is an overall back ground color for the trunk to present a rich combination of colors and textures for the painting. The theme of the painting on the trunk includes a duck resting peacefully under a large lotus plant with huge leaves, lotus flowers, and a lotus seed pod on the left. The right side includes large peony flowers, a small pomegranate flower bud, and a couple butterflies flying above. This lovely antique southern Chinese painted trunk has an exceptional hand-forged thick brass locking plate set with beautiful patina from time. There are also brass handles on the two sides of the trunk for carrying. This trunk is approximately 27” L x 17.25” W x 12” H.
