This wonderful older pillow bench is beautifully constructed with an early style joinery and design, with a curved stretcher parallel to its curved single-board top and the spandrels joining the top and the long stretcher below. Antique Red Lacquered Dressing table with Drawers and a Lift Style Top. Underneath the top is a shallow storage space like a tray. This lovely dressing table/chest is missing a mirror where the top wooden panel unfolds. It has beautiful old red lacquer remaining on various spots on the box. This box looks like was made of nice Chinese walnut hardwood. The two sides of the box are fitted with original thick old brass handles, making it easy to carry it around. This box makes a wonderful jewelry storage box. Some replacements of hardware and wood in the drawers. Late 19-early 20th century. Dimensions: 8 1/2" x 12 1/4" (base) x 7 1/2" H

This graceful antique 17-18th century Chinese Ming style clothing stand is made of the precious Golden-Thread-Nan-Mu wood (Jin-Si-Nan-Mu). Golden-Thread-Nan-Mu was mostly used in building imperial palaces and temples only during mIng Dynasty. The wood carries tiny golden specks with the delicate grain and sometimes with dramatic grain with large swaps of Dark color near the outer skin. This wood is said to be able to release a light fragrance in a humid climate with moisture and does not rot. Therefore, it was also used for coffins for the imperial family and later also for the most wealthy during early Qing period. Few antique Ming style furniture pieces made of this wood can be found. Rare Hardwood Table Screen with Old Black Lacquer. This table screen made of excellent dense hardwood looks like but is heavier than Bai-wood, Chinese cypress. It has beautiful delicate grain. The inserted thick old black lacquer might originally has some writing but is all gone. The screen frame sits on high-footed pedestals with well-carved simple minimized dragon head design on the top of the supporting vertical posts for the actual screen insert, with rounded horizontal supporting wood rod to stop the insert from falling out. The overall simple design of the screen stand/frame is the perfect match to showcase the beautiful wood alone. Such small screen was often used on a scholar's table to partially shield an area for the desk. One might place scholarly objects in front of the screen on the inside. For a Feng-Shui purpose, such screen might exclude unnecessary destruction and provide a mental tranquil space. From a modern interior decorating point of view, it shields an area and provides an intimate personal space. Partial repair on the frame apron. Refinished in lacquer finish. Possibly from 17-18th century. Dimensions: 17" L x 9 1/2" W x26 1/2" H

This tool chest with a tapeies for making a living such as scissors, coins, and others, and possibly was used by a street trader, such as a traveling barber, to keep all his business tools in one place. The single board top to the ground is the perfect height for one to sit on and get a haircut! This older piece has tapered legs with an unusual "melon" design carved on its four solid legs that were constructed with one solid piece of wood for each leg, giving an illusion that each leg might have been constructed with several pieces of wood, a structure seen often in 18th century Chinese furniture pieces. This "melon" look in design embeds a wish for life's prosperity with genrations to succeed like that of many melons produced from a vine plant. The two top drawers have replacements of wood and fitting on the face. The bottom spandrels with a pomegranet design has also been replaced. Such tool chest is handy to carry with small tools stored inside the drawers. One could also sit on it to relax during a break time! Possibly 18-19th century. One sees the bats with pointed large heads with vivid expression. This light-weight carved wooden lacquer box has a lifting style door on the top with a deep storage underneath and a narrow bottom drawer. It as large old brass fitting all over except for the replaced back hinges. The inside of the box also has the original old black lacquer. The top of the box is carved in an "Yin (of Yin-Yang)" style with delicate strokes carved into the surface of the wood and lacquer with a lovely picture of flowering peony plants growing behind tall rocks with grass on the foreground. The old brass fittings at the front include large rectangular shape in Ruyi form on the top, with a bat shape brass plate at the face of the bottom. The two plates are designed to be able to be locked together by a long fold-able latch, making the objects inside the box more secured while moving the box. The two sides have brass handles for easy carrying with minor losses on the small brass pads. Late 19 to early 20th century. Dimensions: 13 5/8" L x 8 1/8" M x 6 5/8" H

Unusual Antique Bone Inlaid Huali Hardwood Majiang Box Set. This impressive hardwood box is intricately inlaid with buffalo bone with beautiful motives in insect, various flowers & vegetation, and figures. The inlaid at the front panel depicts a group of court officials, flanked by servants, playing a game on a table. The bottom calligraphy of "Happiness" gives way to its more modern age. This set with all small squares made of bone and bamboo still retain the original complete set of parts except for one minor round disc (out of four) inside the round container in the bottom drawer. This set is for a die-hard Majiang player and collector, ready to go to a right home! Earlier part of the 20th century. Dimensions: 6 1/2" x 6 1/2" x 9 1/2" H

Large Size Antique Qing Dynasty Carved Round Red Lacquer Wash Stand with gilt carving of simple vegetation and old red lacquer made of organic mineral pigments. This well constructed and striking wash stand was part of a bride's dowry and held a brass or porcelain bowl containing water for the bride to clean her face. It's curved legs are well carved in a Qing style. In the middle, several crossed bars are constructed for holding the weight. On one side of the stand, the old red lacquer has faded and possibly re-touched up as well. Late 19-early 20th century. Sold as is. This stand can still be used as a wash stand or on an entryway to hold some beautiful plant, or by placing a glass top and use it as a small side table. This Very Rare and Unusual Antique Chinese Scholar's Manuscript Storage Book Chest with A Lift Style Door and Carved Calligraphy is made of good Ju wood and Jar-Zhen hardwood except for the top and the sides which look to be a type of Chinese cedar. It has a shelf inside and a bottom drawer. The chest is enclosed on all sides with separate brass bands and a rarely seen old brass front plate in a begonia flower shape with a cicada resting on top of it. It also has two old side brass handle for easy carrying. The calligraphy reads in several parts with the two characters on the top right "己未, Ji-Wei Year", indicating the 56th year of the ancient Chinese 60-year cycling "干支, Gan-Zhi" calendar system. The two characters at the bottom left "蘭亭, Lan-Ting" is probably a location name which is in now Zhejiang province. It is the same place where the famous Eastern Jin Dynasty calligrapher Wong-Xi-Zhi wrote his famous "Lan-Ting-Xu" manual. The five characters in the middle spreading from top left to bottom right with "Rui Feng Shan Ren, Auspicious Peak Mountain Hermit" for the first four characters. The meaning of the last character is unknown. This character is usually associated with some civil duty position or responsibility, but it could also just be the way the owner of this book chest granted himself for his vision as a scholar. This chest is estimated to be from the 1800's. Dimensions: 18" L x 13 1/2" D x 15 3/4" H
