Antique Chinese Blond Burl Wood Round Storage Box.

This box had been stripped and refinished in a lighter wood color. It is carved by hand out of one piece of precious Chinese burl wood. there are a few cracks on the wood, otherwise, in relatively good condition. The box closes well. Over 100 years old.

Old Chinese objects made of burl wood is considered precious and rare. The wood can be a quartersawn cut of Chinese Nan-Mu (a type of cedar), Sichuan burl, Hua-Mu burl, and others, depending on where the source of the lumber came from and its grain. Chinese burl is rarely used for making large piece of object or furniture other than being used for the decorations or for the surface of a table or cabinet doors for its beautiful grain. It is often a type of tropical or sub-tropical wood, denser, and rarer. Therefore, it is often paired with other more exotic Chinese hardwood when used in wood making, such as a medium size Huanghuali cabinet with inlaid burl wood door panels or a Zitan hardwood incense stand with burl wood top, and others.
