Antique Square Bamboo Kang Table Made with Rare Xiang-Fe-Zhu Bamboo with a red lacquer wooden table top. Xiang-Fe-Zhu was mainly grown in Henan Province, north of Yantze River. Xiang bears the same pronunciation for both the characters "Henan" where the bamboo was grown, and "Fragrance" which refers to ancient Chinese beauty, thus, it was said that the bamboo bears her tear drops for its beautiful tear-like spots on the bamboo surface. The top of this table was joined with several pieces of wood with a thin cracking showing. Sold as is. Estimated to be from the late 19th to early 20th century.
Old furniture pieces made of bamboo are very rare. Old bamboo furniture pieces made of Xiang-Fe-Zhu bamboo are even rarer and often treasured by intellectual elites as tasteful objects to use for the exceptional beauty of the bamboo.
