This tool chest with a tapeies for making a living such as scissors, coins, and others, and possibly was used by a street trader, such as a traveling barber, to keep all his business tools in one place. The single board top to the ground is the perfect height for one to sit on and get a haircut! This older piece has tapered legs with an unusual "melon" design carved on its four solid legs that were constructed with one solid piece of wood for each leg, giving an illusion that each leg might have been constructed with several pieces of wood, a structure seen often in 18th century Chinese furniture pieces. This "melon" look in design embeds a wish for life's prosperity with genrations to succeed like that of many melons produced from a vine plant. The two top drawers have replacements of wood and fitting on the face. The bottom spandrels with a pomegranet design has also been replaced. Such tool chest is handy to carry with small tools stored inside the drawers. One could also sit on it to relax during a break time! Possibly 18-19th century. This antique Chinese narrow low bench/bench is carved with a rare early style dragon design with auspicious clouds on the side. The stand/bench is constructed off a Ming style design with a single-top board resting on four rounded splayed legs with stretchers in between the legs for support. The use of such very narrow low bench/stand is not known at the moment. It might have been used as a small altar stand on a table against the wall or used to park inside a sedan for extra table surface to place objects on. In good unfinished condition. This northern Chinese Yu wood (northern elm) is handsomely carved with a longevity Shou design with two very large well executed bats for its auspicious "good luck" and "longevity" meaning. One sees the bats with pointed large heads with vivid expression. The stand/ bench is constructed off a Ming style design with a single-top board resting on four rounded splayed legs with stretchers in between the legs for support. The use of such very narrow low bench/stand is not known at the moment. This very heavy and elegantly shaped antique wooden round stool has an interesting design with four curved leg-supporting cross bars in the middle that look like two pairs of fish or leaves. The four legs are each carved with an unusual long string of bell shaped flowers hanging down from a Ruyi frame. This stool is generously built with a very heavy wood and broad aprons beneath the single-board top. The carved animal shaped feet flare out at the bottom. From the underneath, it appeared that this stool was once partially repaired and joined with metal to secure it rather than by appropriate woven palm fiber and wood, possibly due to its heavy use. 19th century. Good Antique Long and Narrow Single-Board Top Bench. Made of a denser and heavier wood than elm, possibly walnut, the top of this bench has been lightly refinished with a beautiful soft shine that reflects its old patina as well as a delicate grain pattern. It is solidly and generously built with a splayed-leg design with supporting stretchers. The top shows a natural recessed area from the tree. This graceful bench will last another few hundred years if well take care of! 19th century. Dimensions: 52 1/2" L x 6 3/8" D (top of bench) x 20 3/4" H. Also, the widest distance between the legs is 12 1/2".

Antique Ming Style Yu Wood Single Board Top Narrow Bench with an exquisitely executed beaded cloud shape spandrel. This bench is particularly well proportioned and structurally well made compared to other ones with similar looks. It is generously built with northern Chinese elm with a rounded splayed leg design, all joined together with the traditional techniques without metal nails. This bench has been well preserved with the bottom of the feet slightly worn and has been lightly refinished recently. Its solid build and heavy weight makes it a very sturdy bench to sit on or to place at any space such as an entryway. 19th century or older.
