Description
Antique Chinese Scholar's Carrying Style Box with Hand-Carved Calligraphy, Made of Chinese Hardwood, possibly a type of Huali. In excellent condition.
The four characters carved on the lift style door read: Xiao-You Tang Li" (Li's Hall of Virtue for Family and Friends). This box has beautiful natural old patina on the wood without additional refinishing. It is possibly used for carrying scholarly objects. 19th or at least early 20th century.
Dimensions: 10 1/2" L x 12 1/2" H x 4 3/8" D
