This extra wide large size 17th century antique Chinese northern cabinet is among the best examples of northern Chinese furniture with exceptional original hand-painted paintings in organic color pigments made of ground minerals, semi- precious stones, and vegetation in excellent condition. This cabinet came from the Shanxi/ Saanxi area where vast amount of very old Chinese cultural relics has been unearthed.

Though furniture pieces in general are all utilitarian wares- meaning used by people in their living environment, many furniture pieces can be dated back and linked to many other forms of Chinese art whether by carved motifs, colors used, and other factors. Northern furniture in particular is beautiful and special in the way the colors and lacquers were used. Some of these same colors can be dated back to the colors used on the lacquer wares from the Han Dynasty or to the colors used on other objects even earlier.
