Rare wider and lower 4-door style Ningbo wedding cabinet with original old red lacquer made of organic color pigment from mineral. It has fancy brass fitting in cut-out design with Buddhist and Ruyi motif; French Polish over the original red lacquer; 19th century.

This cabinet is made of Ju wood which indicates the manner of good craftsmanship when good wood and costly color were used when building this cabinet. Normally, lesser quality of wood was used for heavily lacquered pieces. The lacquer on this piece was well applied where one can still vaguely see the fine Ju wood grain. Lacquered cabinet made with good wood is one pick out of thousands.
