Description
This fold-able red lacquer round table is unlike anything else I have designed. At the time of re-posting this image to the new website, we could not find the old description that earned its 2010 ADEX Gold Award. So,here's a new description, looking at the design after several years.

The idea of this table came from wanting to have a round table as a dinning table as Chinese people often enjoy having the whole family sitting close together and sharing every dish on a dinner table. Even at the modern day, it is still quite often that some of the Chinese still prefer to dine this way. The fold-able stand came fro needing to save space as most of the pieces I have designed are ecological in space, accommodating smaller living space people now often have, especially in this part of the California.

Why these feet? The two dragon style supports on the two sides of each feet were fairly common for some of the ancient Chinese furniture pieces or even small wooden objects. They were used in many different ways to enhance or support a wooden object. For me, I think I was really having fun when I designed this table. The table looks so lavish with its bright shining red lacquer, and those animal-like feet in a way is “odd” and whimsical. I call it “four feet animal wearing a lavish coat”. There was no thought in putting this design together. It was a quick and intuitive working of something both vague and familiar. So, it turned out to be quite a different piece without any adjustment. In that way, I think we can also call design to be a poetic expression of some sort of.
