Description
Ming Dynasty Blue-and-White Petal Shape Plate with Painted Chilin. Created in a "Kuai-Hua" (Sun flower) shape, this Swato ware plate is built with many indented lines along the inside part of the plate. The plate has a very thick overall cream color glaze at the front and the back side of the plate with only a narrow band at the bottom of the foot unglazed above where thick dripping of the glaze occured. The foot of the plate is shaped with a slightly inward rim. The front side of the plate is painted with a playful Chilin with an open mouth and big eyes and a turning head, while its iconic large bushy tail is quite recognizable for this most auspicious Chinese mythical animal. Along the edges of the plate is a painted band consists of various cloud and Ruyi like motives and small characers inside "open widnows". Minor chips and losses of glaze att eh rim of the platebut overall in fairly good condition.
