Description
Lamp Made with Extra-Large Size Antique Chinese Blue-and-White Ginger Jar with "Double-Happiness" characters. This vintage lamp is special because the antique porcelain jar is a particularly nice one for this type of jars beside its larger than usual size. The strokes and the color of the blue glaze suggest this jar is from the earlier to middle part of the 1800's, likely around 1850's or 1860's. while this type of jar was more commonly seen in the 1990's or even early 2000's on the western market, in the recent years, more reproduced pieces have been seen a lot on the market and being sold as antiques.

In ancient China, a set of seven pairs of porcelain containers like this one with various different shapes, including ginger jars, were given to the bride by the more lucrative families as part of her wedding dowery, to take to the future husband's home to use. Hence, the characters of the most common wedding motif-the Double-Happiness character is painted on theses porcelain containers when being created.

This lamp works fine but buyer might want to upgrade it to the new electrical cord. It comes with a shade.

Dimensions: Approximately 9" Diameter x 11" H (Jar with wood base and wooden lid), the height is about 24" H with the shade.
