This small apothecary chest with an unusual size and design has beautiful original black lacquer although the top had been stripped blond. Each drawer has divided compartments inside. Some were chewed by the mouse from storing the herbs. The surface of all the drawers was fitted with an original old Chinese coin as pull plate and an original old drawer pull. The writings of the herbal names are original writings. The edges of the top display area is carved with auspicious pomegranate design on all sides. This very heavy and unusual apoethecary chest makes a nice table top storage unit, whether for herbs or for storing other personal objects! 19th century.
