Description
Here's a pair out of a set of four tall antique Chinese lattice doors with old lacquer colors in unusual blue and dark yellow. The latticework was created by connecting different lengths of small wooden dowels together with fitting wooden joints that are part of the wooden dowels. The design of the latticework derives from both the shapes of coins and octagons as old Chinese woodwork often incorporated auspicious meaning and aesthetics of philosophical concept for the human's living space- a characteristic that is unique to the Chinese woodwork.

It is interesting to note that the frame, the latticework, and all other parts of this particular set of lattice screen doors are made of only one kind of dense wood, with subtle tight grain that might be of a Nan- Mu type. This is contrary to most other old Chinese screen doors that we have seen that are made of different types of wood with only the carved parts and the actual latticework being made of better wood while the frames and the non- carved bottom long boards are usually made of much cheaper wood. This perhaps suggests that these screen doors here might have come from some prominent or important building. The lacquered colors, though old and do not appear to have been painted during the modern time, perhaps are not original.

Dimensions for each screen: 24"w x 95.5"h x 2.25”d
