(一對明代泥金朱砂紅漆格子門窗掛件) This is a pair of newly framed 17th century architectural latticework with organic red color and gilt color pigment. The red is made of Zhu-Sha (朱砂) , a precious mineral, of which most of the “Chinese red” derived from. At various spots, one can also see the traces of still very bright gold color that might have been painted with powdered gold. This elaborate latticework with stylized architecture, river, and figure scene came from the Zhiang-Nan area where the most complex latticework and finest carvings were made by the skillful wood workers and artists. The detail of the architecture in the latticework is quite wonderful as well as the bats, Shou design, and animals on this pair of very beautiful 17th century latticework!
