Antique Large Size Red Lacquer Paper Mache Wine Jar with Two Spouts. This wine jar is beautifully created by building an internal mold with woven bamboo strips, then, wrapped with layers of paper to form a thick body on the bamboo frame before applying materials made with organic Chinese red color pigment made from precious mineral stone compound, giving its lasting beautiful look as well as its durability to prevent the liquid from leaking. Lacquer has been used in ancient China dated back possibly from as long as seven thousand years ago for the same purposes. Today, in its long stream of history, art, and culture, lacquer is still being used in all phrases of modern life's amenities, daily goods, art, furniture, and more.

This jar with its contrasting textures of worn paper mache work and the smooth lacquer surface with the richest and the most beautiful red honored by time has a timeless quality to it. It will certainly make a beautiful art piece to display at any space! One of the lids was remade as they quite often were lost. Over 100 years old.
