Unusual Antique Tea Cask Style Container Carved with Rabbit Motif. This bucket was constructed in an elegant Octagon shape with small carved feet like the construction of a flower pot, standing on a base. Hand-painted with vegetation in gilt and black on the carved oval circles on the sides of the bucket. The handle is elaborately carved with two rabbits playing and resting in a mountainous field. The lid of the bucket only lifts open from the back side, with the animal-head shaped spout at front lifts open as well. This bucket is hand-carved with fine quality Ju wood, rather than being pegged together by many small sections of wood with wood pegs. Therefore it holds well on its own without needing to be bound by external metal wires like many other Chinese buckets. This is definitely an unusual and conversational piece to collect!
