This rare extra large sized stand is made of the exotic and sought after Ji-Chi-Mu (Chicken-Feather-Wood) hardwood. It is finely crafted in beaded detail and is rare for its size.
Such large sized stand was possibly used in a traditional herbal shop. When in such use, an herbal scale is hung from the brass loop on the center top when the scale is in us; the bottom drawer is used to store the scale and other important practicals such as bound rice-papered bookkeeping manuscripts and calligraphy brushes, for writing and doing the bookkeeping when a business is open. Chicken-Feather-Wood ranks among the three most exotic and expensive Chinese hardwood. It is known for its dark hue with an iridescent effect looks like that of the tight range of dark color hues on some chicken feathers. From the mid Qing Dynasty.
