Description
(明代雕石榴楠木建築飾件一對) A pair of wonderful 17-18th century small size architectural fragments of carved pomegranates with branches. One can see in the photos the construction of the pieces where other wooden parts would have been connected to. The wood smells slightly fragrant, so it might be Xiang-Nan (香楠) type of Nan-Mu.

Pomegranate fruit is full of seeds. It symbolizes fertility, generations, and prosperity (多子多孫 世代興盛 ) in Chinese culture and is a favorite subject for many painters and artists alike.

Dimensions: 11"w x 4"d x 3 1/2"h each.
