Antique Ming Style Ju Wood Side Chair. This beautiful chair stripped in lighter color is built with great proportions, well balanced like many of the older chairs from the Ming and early Qing period. Its simplicity in design speaks the style favored by the literati class during the golden age of Chinese furniture. The old foot rest is nicely worn from the testimony of time. Ju wood is a better tropical wood, considered a southern Chinese elm. It is less common than northern Chinese elm. Ju wood had been used in the furniture making during the Ming Dynasty with found examples. Older Ming style furniture pieces made of Ju wood are rare.
