Ex-Large Size Carved Old Bamboo-Woven Stacking Basket with Side Drawers. It has very fine carvings of the Eight- Immortals figures on the broad bamboo frame that holds the actual basket. The intricate weaving pattern include "Fu, Lu, and Shou" (Blessing/Good luck, Wealth/ Prosperity, and Longevity) characters. Such design of the huge bamboo basket with drawers were likely created during the first part of the 20th century for the convenience of the more modern life. Lightly finished in lacquer. In excellent condition.

Bamboo woven ware is created with a long process by first splitting the large bamboo timbers into smaller width step by step until it is small (often tiny) enough in width to weave into a mesh while keeping its intended length at the same time. One can imagine the amount of work labored into this often elegant finished product for its light carrying in weight (compared to wood, porcelain, or metal) and durable nature for carrying or storing certain types of objects.
