Constructed in the shape of the traditional "Garden Stool" style, this unusual old Chinese Lacquered wooden stool is decorated with elegant floral design by carving into the thick layered black lacquer surface, leaving a desired relieved pattern inside the thick lacquer, then, finished again with thinner lacquer coating for the outside. This technique in lacquer work is called "Cut lacquer" or "Carved lacquer" which differs from carving on the wooden surface first and then finish the object with lacquer finish outside. This stool has been fully restored from its original much deteriorating condition, leaving traces of worn and used marks present. This stool is estimated to be from the early 20th century or older.
