Description
This 17th century foot rest with massage rollers is made of Te-Li hardwood. In Chinese medicine, there are a few points under the feet, such as Yong- Quan- Xue (in the middle, a bit towards the front, of the palm of your feet) that are particularly good for kidney channel which governs many important functions in the human body, including such as blood circulation. By massaging these points at night before going to bed can improve sleep. The ancient Chinese already had the wisdom of working the body's own magical healing power. A similar, almost identical, foot rest made of same wood is also in Mr. Wang-Shi-Xinag's incredible antique Ming and Ming style furniture collection made of only exotic Huanghuali hardwood and other rare wood.

Te- Li is also called “Poor Man's Ji- Chi- Mu (Chicken feather wood)”, but is more coarse and straighter in line for the grain, and is more porous than Ji- Chi- Mu even though it is also a hardwood. Old objects and furniture pieces made of Te- Li wood are incredibly rare other than the more commonly seen small Chinese herbal scale storage boxes. Furniture pieces made of Te- Li Mu (wood) , if found, will often be in a wonderful early style and sometimes with great superior workmanship except for the ones from the late Qing. This wood has a grayish tone, together with its grain, the smaller objects made of this wood tend to have a simple design with an aesthetic sense of older feeling and simplicity in beauty. The wisdom of the wood workers of the ancient China can be seen in how material and style (design) were carefully matched when creating a wood object.
