This unique small antique rattan woven suitcase still has traces of thick Pi-Huei 披灰 style lacquer in red. The old iron fitting and old coins are an unique way for many old folk made chinese woodwork and woven wares to dress up the pieces as well as their functioning purpose. Old willow woven wares, unlike bamboo woven wares that tend to be more refine, have wonderful texture coming from the material and the way it was woven, often with a much simpler form to the eyes. This suitcase with its smaller sizemight have been used to store food or personal objects. Majority of the willow wares camefrom northern part of China. While many willow wares are still being made, this suitcase is over 100 years old with its beautiful old patina. Inside is very clean.
