(早清柞榛木圓腿茶几) This Very Rare 17-18th Century Ming Style Tea Table is constructed of a very rare Chinese hardwood call "Jar-Zheng Mu, 柞榛木". "Mu" is "Wood". It is a very dense wood almost like shining rock when hand-polished without applying a lacquer finish to it. Its original raw wood has an obvious green hue to it, and as the furniture aged, the wood turned into an almost dark gray-brown color with large swashes of light beige color in the wood. At old days, furniture made of this wood were much prized by the Shanghai area antique dealers and often only a few examples of the old pieces could be found in the more prominent antique stores. Furniture made of this wood tended to carry the traditional Ming style design and look, with many from the mid Qing period and also the reproduced Ming style pieces. Occasionally a few from the early Qing or Ming could be found in which case they seemed to carry the similar structure of the early period furniture pieces. This tea table is generously built with good material with thick rounded posts without decoration or unnecessary parts. Its clean design resembles those of early furniture pieces as well. The middle shelf is handy. There are some stains. Otherwise, the furniture itself is structurally intact with the moisture-worn feet that carry the characteristics of very old furniture pieces. There has been more publication published in recent years in China in regards to the research of furniture pieces made of this wood with more examples can be seen now. However, old furniure pieces made of this wood remain very rare.

Good Antique Long and Narrow Single-Board Top Bench. Made of a denser and heavier wood than elm, possibly walnut, the top of this bench has been lightly refinished with a beautiful soft shine that reflects its old patina as well as a delicate grain pattern. It is solidly and generously built with a splayed-leg design with supporting stretchers. The top shows a natural recessed area from the tree. This graceful bench will last another few hundred years if well take care of! 19th century. Dimensions: 52 1/2" L x 6 3/8" D (top of bench) x 20 3/4" H. Also, the widest distance between the legs is 12 1/2".

This Pair of Large Size Antique Chinese Gilt Red Lacquer Pigskin-Stretched Wooden wedding Trunks with Double-Happiness, Shou (Longevity), and Bat Motives are indeed elaborate and impressive! Made with precious and expensive organic color pigment and as part of a festive occasion such as a wedding, these beautiful red leather trunks are appliqued with cut motives of leather painted in guilt for decoration. They still retain the original large size old brass fitting. However, the one remaining original lock will likely need to be cut as the key is no longer available. There are various torn spots at the corners of the trunks and some stains on the inside leather. However, they are great collectible items as well as can be used as special storage for one's treasured items! Late 19-early 20th century. Sold as is and as a pair only. Small Antique Northern Chinese Painted Red Lacquer Cabinet from Shanxi province with Auspicious Symbols in bold and bright colors on the original red lacquer background from organic mineral compound. The motives include flower vases for harmony and peace, temple objects such as incense burner and fruit offering, and scholarly books and scrolls. The button spandrel is carved with a large bat with extending wigs, while the cabinet is decorated with twined peony flowers around the frame. Chinese furniture is often decorated, whether by carving or being painted, with many traditional Chinese auspicious motives probably more than other forms of Chinese art. This is because furniture is directly associated with one's living space and everyday living and is part of the architecture, these symbols reflect a culture and general people's wishes for a better life and future generations. This square-cornered two-door cabinet with a flat style construction and painted surface was in a very rough condition but with a good bone, so we have spent a lot of time restoring the damaged lacquer part to bring it to a usable, solid, and beautiful cabinet to use.
