Antique Larger Finely Woven Oval Bamboo Open Basket with Carved Tall Handles.
This beautiful open basket was applied with organic red color pigments made from the natural mineral compound. Such red color lasts even after 100 years and is as beautiful as when it was first created. The basket itself was finely woven with fine bamboo mesh created from large timber bamboo hand-split from larger sizes to its current fine and very thin sizes in order to weave the object. One handle was repaired. Otherwise, the body of the basket is in excellent condition.
The wooden handles of the basket with red lacquer are further carved in a narrow vase shape reflecting ordinary people's desire in a culture that integrates harmony and peace into their home living through the art and daily objects created. Judging from the area where this basket came from, this basket might have been used as a bride's basket as a local tradition to contain personal objects for daily use. Late 19-early 20th century.
