Description
(清早期榆木黑漆二門大櫃)This very tall and massive looking wider two-door cabinet is from the 18th century. Unlike the more common pieces from the late 19th to the early 20th century, this cabinet is built with a proportion that gives its stately presence, aleging one's eyes to an expanded horizontal weight and feel for the grand presence of the piece. It has a thicker and deeper frame, compared to the later pieces, with a common “rounded-edge” design but full of nice detials, such as using carved beaded lines of the front and the back main post of the cabinet to showcase the lengthy recessed side panel of the cabinet that does not have a middle suppoting bar to destruct the view of the full panel. The side panel was created with a single wood board, as do the door panels at front. Details like the above show the manner and workmanship in which a furniture piece was created during the early Qing period when this piece was created. The hand-forged original brass fittings are very thick and with beautiful natural greenish patina through time.
