This rare and elegant antique Northern cane-wrapped style bamboo low table with bottom stretchers and rare original red lacquer is constructed with lattice work underneath the wooden top. It has great proportion and a classical design that fashions after a rectangular wooden bench. 19th century. French Polish over the original beautiful lacquer.

Old bamboo furniture is much rarer than the wood furniture as few have survived. The joinery on bamboo furniture can be very enticing because it partly imitates the joinery on the wood furniture, yet it also has its own unique way of constructing pieces together by bending, fitting, or binding with thin woven bamboo ropes in different ways.
