Description
Rare antique 19-18th Century Hand-woven Chinese Wool Rug with beautiful and Unusual Motives of a large stemmed lotus plant with lotus flower coming out of a tall vase placed on a low Chinese table. At the foreground, there are a round fish bowl with goldfish in it as well as calligraphy brush on a manuscript book as well as what looks like persimmon fruits towards the right. The pronunciation of persimmon in Chinese is the same as the pronunciation for the first Chinese character of the Shakyamuni Buddha's name. Therefore, a persimmon sometimes is used as an art motif related to Buddhism. Behind the tall vase is a larger Chinese low table with intricate woodwork with small objects and a tall bonsai landscape rock displayed on it. To the left of this table is a temple incense burner with lid on it. Truly an unusual and beautiful piece with such elegant colors as well as a work of art though with many unsophisticated repairs. It can make a wonderful hanging on the wall. Sold as is.

Dimensions: 51 1/2" L x 27" W
